The High Life in Greece
The Greek civilization reached a high point in the year 776 BC with the beginning of the Olympic Games. The Greeks were fierce warriors, advanced architects, and highly regarded for their mastery of oral story telling and the alphabet. The nation always seemed to be at war with someone, whether another culture or themselves, the Greeks were always playing both defensively and offensively. Power shifted constantly, from kings to aristocracy to dictatorships. The Greeks were a truly advanced society, skilled craftsmen, and strategic warriors, a deadly combination for their enemies. They maintained a culture that was held to a higher standard of excellence, where art and music met extensive trade. The use of a written language is one of the reasons so much is known about this society today. The Greek alphabet was influenced by the Phoenician Alphabet.
